In Pikachu's Ocean Adventure, a Latias and Latios used their powers to help Pikachu, Meowth, and the other Pokémon search for the legendary " Wailord's Tear" that was said to be beneath the ocean. After Latios had been saved in the next episode, Latias left with him. In JN145, she revealed herself to him and showed him a vision of a Latios in danger. At the end of the episode, she started to secretly follow Ash.

Latias made her main series debut in The Road Most Traveled!, where Ash encountered an injured Latias and helped her to recover, even saving her from being captured by Team Rocket. Latias is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Mist Ball. It forms herds with several members and is usually found near water. It normally does not make contact with humans or other Pokémon and disappears when an enemy is nearby.
